Learning to Fly

New year's resolution #2

This year, I've also decided to stop talking about getting my CFI, and actually do it.  But that means completing my commercial first, which has laid some what dormant for about 5 months now.

Was all set to go out this week when I got something that one of the kids brought home.  Knocked me flat on my back for better part of a week.  Sigh... the best laid plans of mice and men...

PFC's SMA 182 on AvWeb!

Back in late December, I had the distinct pleasure of flying with Paul Bertorelli of AvWeb/Aviation Consumer in Paramus Flying Club's Jet-A Diesel C182-SMA.  He had come in to do a story on the club's experience with this new technology.  The morning was predictably brisk, though the skies were crystal clear, and the air was calm.

Instrument currency, again...

So one of my new years resolutions is not to let my instrument currency lapse.  And more important, do more to stay proficient (not just legal).  To that end, I go up in 68N with Tom.

Do the GPS26 approach into Randall (06N), do the missed approach, fly out to the Huguenot VOR for a couple of trips around the hold, then back into Randall for the VOR8 approach.  After that, back into Caldwell for the LOC22 approach.

Feeling much more confident than late last year.  What a difference some concentrated practice makes.  Or maybe it's he simplicity of the FADEC.  My new years resolution is to not go so much between practicing approaches.  We will see if I live up to it.
